What type of school is Intellicor International - private, independent, charter?

Intellicor International Academy is an iHeart Schools Project of the International Development Education Association (IDEA).

Intellicor International Academy is an indepedent school organization registered as a non-profit in the State of North Carolina. It has an interim steering committee but looks to elect of Board of Education from the stakeholders of parents, community members and donors.

While it is a private tuition-based school offering Islamic and Quranic sciences, Dr. Mohammad Adnan Alghorani and his steering committee are investigating the benefits and consequences of applying to become a charter program. Because the application process is quite intensive with the NC Division of Charter Schools, the conversion, if beneficial to the students, would take several years.

Intellicor International Academy is not affiliated with any religious organization in Charlotte, however, Dr. Alghorani his intent on building bridges with every facet of the community.

What is the enrollment process?

Complete the following Online Registration Intention Form.

Submit before the first day of school:

A copy of the student's birth certificate;

A copy of the latest immunization record (be sure student is current with all immunizations);

A signed "Records Request" form, which will be emailed to you once you apply online;

Pay the Fees.

Are students assessed in any way prior to the start of their Intellicor opportunity?

Students are administered two tests, one cognitive testing IQ and the other academic testing level.

Wechsler Nonverbal Scale of Ability

Nonverbal measure of intellectual abilities for culturally and linguistically diverse groups. Among many, it measures Fluid Intelligence is the capacity to think logically and solve problems in novel situations, independent of acquired knowledge. Fluid Intelligence involves the ability to identify patterns and relationships that underpin novel problems and to extrapolate these findings using logic.

Wide Range Achievement Test 4

The WRAT4 is an academic skills assessment which measures reading skills, math skills, spelling, and comprehension. The WRAT4 serves as an excellent initial academic achievement evaluation, re-evaluation, or progress measure for any student.

What foreign languages will be taught at Intellicor International Academy?

At the present time, Arabic will be the principal second language.

Other options may become available based on interest of students, such as Spanish, Chinese or an alternative.
Will there be arts electives in the curriculum?

Intellicor is adopting the IB program for its curriculum. As part of this curriculum, an arts component is required.

Various arts electives will be made available. A complete list will be provided in the months prior to the start of the academic year.
Will the school have labs for students to use?

The steering committee is currently working on securing sponsorships for a science lab and computer lab.

The science lab is planned to have science work benches and equipment.
Will busing be available to families?

Intellicor is planning on having 2-3 vans to pick up students at hub stops. There will be a monthly charge for transportation.

The plan is to provide common pick up and drop off points in various areas of the city that is convenient for clusters of families.

Intellicor is working on a plan to provide busing from two locations in North Charlotte and two locations in South Charlotte.

There is also discussion of having a Gastonia stop for students living in that area.
